[Announcement] kernel group upgrade and minor graphic group update

linux kernel 4.10.6 is now in [testing] along with kernel group update.

There are also mesa + libglvnd update, which adhere Arch's change toward nvidia Optimus support and vulkan driver.
(basically, libglvnd, mesa, nvidia, nvidia-legacy, and bumblebee)

Please report any problem here.

What do you mean by minor graphics update? Can you be more specific about the versions, e.g. mesa?

Re: [Announcement] kernel group upgrade and minor graphic group update

mesa: 13.0.2 -> 17.0.2

minor means, I didn't do the whole Xorg group, just the mesa and nvidia driver part.

Re: [Announcement] kernel group upgrade and minor graphic group update

So we get mesa 17.0.2 nice! cool And there are no more separated mesa-libgl package?

Seems like lib32-mesa-vdpau needs lib32-libelf.

And there are circular depenency problems:

mesa with libglvnd
lib32-libglvnd with lib32-mesa

lib32-mesa-vdpau is still not fixed. It will be uploaded later?

And that circural dep. thing is fine?

Re: [Announcement] kernel group upgrade and minor graphic group update

A warning: If you are on Optimus laptop using Intel + Nvidia with Bumblebee, I have issues with a black screen instead of SDDM that I could not fix yet after this upgrade.

If you can replicate, please let us know, it is important to check that this is a general issue  that is not happening just in my system.

To get back to a working state, switch to tty3 with Ctrl+Alt+F3, disable testing and -Syuu.

Re: [Announcement] kernel group upgrade and minor graphic group update

Now the packages are fixed. But since the update, i get terrible 2D performance. I have direct rendering and glxgears works, but even moving a window are sluggish. I'm using opengl 3.1 for compositor.

*with AMD RX460, using amdgpu

Re: [Announcement] kernel group upgrade and minor graphic group update

This morning (3 hours ago) I tried to reboot after update.
Boot hangs with this error (taken from journalctl for more complete info):
dPuLh78.jpg

I can only shut down.

Choosing the rescue environment at boot I'm able to access recovery console.
What service I have to start in order to have net access and try to reinstall or revert to stable?
(tryed systemd-networkd: starts and work, but no wired connection is available).

EDIT: googling it seems that ae_not_found error in not blocking. so I have to check journal with more attention.

May dhcpcd command can bring your connection up and running. That's the dhcp client.

Re: [Announcement] kernel group upgrade and minor graphic group update

@kepsz: thanks for suggestion, I'll check it.

Here is the picture of the output during boot. There are also strange hardware Error...

EDIT: still seems these errors are not blocking https://lkml.org/lkml/2017/1/4/559

Re: [Announcement] kernel group upgrade and minor graphic group update

I'm back home right now. Some update.

1- I'm posting from chakra, good news smile
2- I found a strange error about plymouth folder missing. I installed plymouth (chakra uses plymouth? I didn't know...). I installed vulkan-intel also just for fun, don't know if helps.
3- Now at boot I'm able to access console. I run startx from console and get an error on nvidia parameter (maybe not recognised in new driver release, don't know).

Anyway, ctrl+alt+F7 and... boom! I'm at login. Environment startup is very slow.
No significant errors in journal.

I'll try some game and reboot ASAP.

EDIT: urban terror starts with intel

Re: [Announcement] kernel group upgrade and minor graphic group update

 primusrun glxgears
primus: fatal: failed to load any of the libraries: /usr/lib/nvidia/libGL.so.1:/usr/lib32/nvidia/libGL.so.1
/usr/lib/nvidia/libGL.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
/usr/lib32/nvidia/libGL.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Just a reminder. I'll check later, sorry.

optirun works
primusrun fails

Re: [Announcement] kernel group upgrade and minor graphic group update

Just performed this upgrade again (intel+nvidia optimus laptop using bumblebee).

I again had issues with sddm not loading and using CPU. This is fixed when I manually remove the /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-nvidia-drm-outputclass.conf file.  Just for reference, the way I troubleshoot this:
- Boot into black screen
- Switch to tty3 with Ctrl+Alt+F3
- Run htop and see sddm loaded and using CPU
- systemctl stop sddm
- sudo journalctl -b | grep sddm
- check for related errors

After removing that file and rebooting, my SSDM is alive and I can login fine in a working system! No need to install vulkan-intel or plymouth.

I can replicate exactly what dinolib posted above.

I forgot to mention it, but in my point 3) I removed the nvidia conf file too.

note: I think primus and lib32-primus packages need to be recompiled.

EDIT:
Is it possible there is a missing parameter (CONFIG_DRM)  in kernel?

o An X driver configuration file
     (/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/nvidia-drm-outputclass.conf); If the X server
is sufficiently new, this file will be installed to configure the X
server to load the nvidia_drv.so driver automatically if it is started
after the NVIDIA kernel module is loaded. This feature is supported in
X.Org xserver 1.16 and higher when running on Linux 3.9 or higher with
     CONFIG_DRM enabled

from ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux … README.txt

Re: [Announcement] kernel group upgrade and minor graphic group update

Other arch users have the same issue with optimus cards (https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=224202).
Atm I still can't find a valid solution, anyway renaming the /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-nvidia-drm-outputclass.conf file did the trick.

Recently arch changed how opensource and proprietary nvidia drivers work together and now uses libglvnd .
This required changes in mesa, xorg-server and nvidia driver.
You will have to rebuild mesa and nvidia without libglvnd support,
